Hamond has been toying with the fringes of electronic indie-pop for quite a while now, culminating in the release of his first body of work, Source Material, in 2020. He often takes listeners for a twist, for instance, the Craig David and Artful Dodger “Re-Rewind” sample in “Hotel Zaza” and his lo-fi R&B style is a mix of influences that are beyond Houston but captures the city’s infectious moods and hooks.
From his childhood, Hamond was a multi-instrumentalist, which helped him develop his musical skills. “I began with piano when I was young and then I added more instruments to my repertoire,” he said in an interview with Best Fit. “I would try everything on my parents’ PC with a basic Cubase program.” That’s when I decided I wanted to start singing, but I never said that out loud until high school though.
