“Rain” is the fifth single of the year from MEYY, and the sultry vocals fit the stripped-back instrumental arrangement well. The track has a night driving feel to it and Jelani Blackman’s deep voice is an extra layer of intensity, showcasing his rising status in UK rap. The list of artists with whom he has worked is quite impressive: Brian Eno, Burna Boy, Wolf Alice, Gorillaz, Barrington Levy, and many others only prove his worth in the scene.
MEYY calls “Rain” as “the last dream” from her new EP Neon Angel, and shares how it captures the feelings of getting into a new relationship after a breakup. “It is easier to fall in love than to fall out of it,” she says, and the lyrics and the music of the track are about the opposite sides of love. The instrumental is complemented by Francisgotheat’s fine production and Jelani’s lyrical flow, making the song even more ethereal.
